On the occasion of this 21^st nearly annual National Kazoo Day -- Greetings, my fellow Kazooists!

 

As you know, National Kazoo Day occurs annually (although in some regions, more often) on or about January 28^th – or whenever kazooists decide it’s convenient. As stated by Founder (Chaplain) Willard Rahn and the Joyful Noise Kazoo Band of Homewood Retirement Home in Williamsport, MD, “We have to be flexible.”

 

NEW BOOK COMPLETED

This year promises to be a banner year, with the completion of my new manuscript KazooToo: Banding Together for More Perfect Harmony, an instruction book for ensemble kazooing in groups of one or more.

 

In addition to wild and wonderful variations for kazooists of all ability levels, topics such as auxiliary band positions for the musically challenged will add immeasurably to the depths of enjoyment.  Participants such as Flag Flippers, "Foof Foof Squads" (so named for the swishing sound their pom poms make) and Baton Droppers (who throw batons in the air randomly, with no real attempt to catch them) will finally be given their place in the sun.

 

ADD YOUR KAZOO EVENTS TO HISTORY

Also included in the book will be a Hummble Time Line of Great Events in Kazoo History. Any Kazoodaphiles with suitable events to add should email them to my attention, in care of this website. [Please no cheap shots or body function humor, just witty and family-appropriate suggestions.]

 

NOTE OF SADNESS

Kazooperman,  Leader of Kazoophony’s Fan Club, reports that Kazoophonist Feodor Kaminsky (the 6 foot 4 “Don Knots of Kazooing”) succumbed to terminal illness last fall.  We mourn his loss and ask each of you to pay tribute to his memory, each in his/her own way as appropriate to the independent spirit of kazooing.

 

CONTINUING KAZOO NATIONALIZATION CAMPAIGN

The campaign to “Make the Kazoo the National Instrument – to keep America humming” continues, with as much success as in previous years.

 

For the last 20 or 30 years or so, this campaign for national instrument status has been in a stage described by onlookers as “dormancy”.  Again, fellow kazooists, raise your voices to the cause! We have a national bird, a national song – and a national debt! Why not make the kazoo the national instrument?

 

LAST NOTES

As you go out to trumpet the virtues of the kazoo as National Instrument, remember: Kazoos are the grassroots of America --They’re dirt cheap, like to clump together, and crop up everywhere.

 

This is an American Election Year and also the Chinese Year of the Monkey.  Don’t call us…write your favorite Candidates and ask them to monkey around with this important kazoo nationalization issue. Ask not what you can kazoo for your country!
